The Lights of Chanukah and a 2026 Commitment

As Chanukkah approaches, I often tell my kids to “be the shamash”, the helper candle that lights all the others on the menorah. The shamash stands a little taller, not to shine for itself but to share its flame and bring light to those around it. In the same way, I remind them that our purpose is not only to celebrate our own blessings but to use them to brighten someone else’s world – with kindness, generosity and courage Each act of goodness, no matter how small, spreads light just as the Shamash’s does – one spark at a time until the whole menorah, and the world flows brighter

Looking Back
This past fall, we gathered for our signature events: our welcome dinner, the Sukkah build, and of course, Steaks in the Sukkah. These gatherings did more than just fill our calendars—they deepened our friendships, reinforced our connection to Jewish practice, and helped us feel part of something enduring and meaningful. Many of us discovered new companions, renewed old ties, and strengthened our sense of belonging.

Looking Ahead: December & January
As the winter months approach, the Men’s Club has several opportunities lined up—and even more in planning. Here’s a preview of what’s coming:

  • Chanukkah Celebration – Join for laughter and festive fun.
  • A Men’s Club/ Sisterhood breakfast in January, Sharsheret Program – Staying Informed, Supported and Empowered.
  • Worldwide Wrap – Join Jewish men and women around the globe as we wrap tefillin together on the same day/

A Personal Note
This winter, I encourage you to take one step: show up to one Men’s Club event. Bring a friend. Sit in, listen, contribute. I promise you’ll leave with something more than you brought—perhaps a new connection, a moment of insight, or a renewed sense of belonging.

We also want to hear from you!  What new programs would you like to see? How can the Men’s Club better support our synagogue and enrich your life?

Please share your thoughts with me at  or 847-922-9673.

L’Shalom,

Ron
